The difference between NEET UG and PG is that NEET UG is the medical entrance examination for getting admission into Undergraduate courses such as MBBS, BDS, etc., on the other hand, NEET PG is the entrance examination for getting admission into post-graduate courses such as MD, MS, MDS, PG diplomas, etc in all the prominent colleges of India. The scope of both NEET UG vs PG is altogether different. Therefore students should be well informed about this and prepare accordingly.

What is the NEET-UG National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test? 

NEET-UG  is an All India Level Entrance Exam for taking admissions into the MBBS/BDS Courses in Indian Medical/Dental Colleges which are run with the approval of the Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India. The conducting authority of NEET UG is the National Testing Agency (NTA). Whereas the conducting authority of NEET PG is the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the sole medical entrance exam in India for getting admissions to undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS (Dental), and AYUSH (BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS). This exam is conducted once a year for providing admissions to 80,055 MBBS seats, 26,949 BDS seats, 52,720 AYUSH seats, and 525 BVSc & AH seats.

NEET 2021 is scheduled to be conducted on September 12, Sunday, 2021 in Pen and Paper-based offline mode. NEET exam is going to be held in 11 languages including English and Hindi. The exam conducting authority, NTA (National Testing Agency) has also released the NEET 2021 application forms. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for managing the admissions for the MBBS seats under All India Quota (15%) and State quota (85%). The admission regarding the All India Quota seats is done through centralized counselling which is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee, the counselling for the 85% state quota seats is going to be conducted by designated state admission authorities. 

 

Following the policy of “One nation One test” that was introduced, NEET has emerged as the one-tier national level entrance test which has scrapped all the state entrance tests including AIIMS and JIPMER. The AIIMS and JIPMER MBBS exams have desisted, and from now onwards the admission to both these institutes will also happen through NEET itself.

What is NEET-PG National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate? 

 

NEET-PG is a National-level entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) for the admissions into the various MD/MS/Postgraduate Diploma Medical Courses in the country. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) is finally going to be conducted on September 11, 2021. NBE is going to open the NEET PG 2021 registration and edit window between August 16 to 20, 2021. Earlier, the NEET PG 2021 was to be conducted after August 31, 2021, however, it got postponed. The total number of candidates who have registered for NEET PG is 1,74,886. 

 

Eligibility Criteria of NEET UG: 

To be eligible for NEET, a candidate must have completed 10+2 examinations from a recognized board of India with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as mandatory subjects. A candidate is required to obtain at least 50 percent marks in the qualifying examination. However, there are also relaxations in the cases of reserved category candidates.

Following is the detailed eligibility criteria of NEET-UG 2021

 

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA NEET UG:

The qualification criteria of NEET-UG is that the applicants must have qualified for their higher secondary examination or International board examination that which is recognized and equivalent to the 10+2 examination. Regarding the subjects, an applicant must have passed the qualifying examination with the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and any other elective subjects with English. An aggregate score in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for General category - minimum 50% marks in 12th, 40% marks for reserved category(SC/ST/OBC), 45% marks for general physical handicap, and 40% marks (SC/ST/OBC-PH). 

 

NEET UG AGE LIMIT:

Applicants are required to have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or before 31st December of the year of admission in the institute. There is no upper age limit for NEET 2021 as per the Supreme Court interim order. Admissions to the colleges for candidates aged 25 or above shall depend on the final judgment of the Supreme Court. Both the SC/ST/OBC/PwD/General EWS candidates should be born on or before 31st December 2003.

 

Eligibility Criteria of NEET PG: 

In order to be eligible for the NEET PG, an aspirant should have completed Graduation in Medicine(MBBS) with a 1-year internship and be willing to pursue MD, MS, and PG diplomas. This exam is a computer-based exam and will be conducted in an online mode. It is going to be conducted across 162 cities in India, and the duration is 3 hours 30 minutes. NEET PG 2021 will consist of multiple-choice questions and the maximum mark is 800. According to the updated exam pattern of NEET PG, the question paper will carry 200 questions in total. Candidates should note that as per NEET PG exam pattern 2021 there is going to be negative marking in the examination.
